Kitchen Reorganization Pt.1

We’ve been in our current home for about a year and a half and its been full speed ahead ever since. I was about 5 months pregnant when we moved into our home, still trying to sell our old home (which I signed the papers the day prior to Luna arriving). So needless to say we haven’t taken the time to organize how we’d like.

Luna is now one years old and a busy toddler. Antavis works full time, I’m trying to run a business so we are always on the go! Which leads us to the organized chaos that we’ve created. Recently I’ve become obsessed with organization accounts on Instagram, particularly RiOrganize.

Before/After

Antavis is off two days in a row this week so we decide to reorg the kitchen. Our initial plan was to go to Ikea and the Container Store today but we regrouped and decided we didn’t want to go to these stores without a plan and get overwhelmed. We needed to come up with a game plan so we could decide what we needed from these stores to get better organized.

The first step for us was to pull everything out of the cabinets and drawers and decide what we need to get rid of. BOY, was it a lot of stuff! It’s crazy how much you accumulate over the years(like water bottles) and how much stuff you no longer use.

Before/After

One of the saddest things was pulling Luna’s bottles, food jars and old sippy cups out of the cabinet. I want her to be my baby forever. I even contemplated keeping the blue cup they give you during your hospital stay. It’s crazy what you become emotionally attached to, or is it just me?

This project has been a family affair. It started off with Antavis and me pulling things out of the cabinets and Amiyah quickly joined in. She normally is the one that will decide to reorganize some part of the kitchen. Luna contributed by pulling snacks out of the pantry and handing them to us to give her some.

We made so much progress today and had a great time bonding over clutter! Even though I am exhausted and wasn’t able to workout until 10:30PM, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. Our plan is to make a trip to Ikea and The Container Store tomorrow to get a few things to take our kitchen organization up a notch. So stay tuned for Part 2. ~Selena
